Всё для фронта! Всё для победы!“ Этот лозунг военной поры был основополагающим для сотрудников Исторической библиотеки, за годы войны ни на один день не прекращавшей обслуживания читателей. Включенные в издание документальные материалы наглядно показывают вклад сотрудников библиотеки в общую копилку победы над врагом. Из документов, включенных в сборник, можно узнать о героических усилиях коллектива по защите здания библиотеки от фашистских бомб, эвакуации ценных фондов на восток страны, участии сотрудников в строительстве оборонительных сооружений вокруг Москвы и заготовке дров для столицы. Особый интерес представляют воспоминания читателей и сотрудников библиотеки, переписка с фронтовиками. Специальные разделы сборника посвящены деятельности филиалов библиотеки военного времени – на станции метро „Курская“ и в госпитале № 2939, приведены отзывы читателей филиалов.
