In the Russian Empire the title of "Russian officer" was not just a professional designation or social status. The title of "officer" meant belonging to a special caste of people for whom honor and dignity was more precious than life. For the honor fought for it and died.
During the Russo-Japanese war of 1904, the captain Valentin Kulchitsky wrote "Advice to the young officer," which essentially became code of honor of a Russian officer.
Also the book includes: "the Dueling code" V.., equally valid in both the civilian and for the military, and the story of Alexander Pushkin "the Shot" as the brightest illustration and the officers ' honor, and dueling history. For the duel - "the last argument of the preservation of honor."
