Иштван Эркень (1912-1979) - венгерский прозаик и драматург, основоположник венгерского театра абсурда. Оказавшись в 1957 г. в "черном списке" цензуры из-за своих дерзких выступлений на радио и в печати, Эркень вынужден был писать в стол - и это дало ему необыкновенную свободу. С помощью гротеска и абсурда он превращал невероятное в возможное, сочетая тонкую лирику и блестящую сатиру, он выстраивал судьбы своих героев так, что невозможно было ему не поверить. Персонажей его пьес никак не назовешь героями, а их поведение - героическим, это обычные люди. Но эти люди способны на сильные чувства, они заявляют о своем праве на личную независимость, на неприкосновенность своей внутренней жизни, на человеческое достоинство.
Пьесы, вошедшие в этот сборник ("Кошки-мышки" (1963), "Семья Тотов" (1964)), были написаны в виде повестей, они стали важной вехой в творчестве писателя - после них его вновь стали печатать. Затем они были поставлены на сцене и сделали Эркеня драматургом с мировым именем.
В нашей стране в 70-80-е годы прошлого века Иштвана Эркеня считали своим драматургом 27 советских театров, знаменитые постановки Товстоногова в БДТ вошли в историю не только отечественной, но и мировой культуры. В наши дни постановки пьес И. Эркеня идут в МХТ им. А.П. Чехова и МОДТ им. А.Н. Островского.

V nashi dni postanovki pes I. Erkenya idut v MKHT im. A.P. CHekhova i MODT im. A.N. Ostrovskogo.
István Örkény (1912-1979) is a Hungarian novelist and playwright, the founder of the Hungarian theater of the absurd. Caught in 1957 in the "black list" of censorship because of their daring performances on radio and in print, Örkény was forced to write to the table - and it gave him unusual freedom. With the help of the grotesque and the absurd, he turned in an incredible effort, combining subtle lyrics and a brilliant satire, he set the destinies of his characters so that it was impossible for him not to believe. But these people are capable of strong feelings, they declare their right to personal autonomy, the sanctity of his inner life, to human dignity.
The plays included in this collection ("Cat and mouse" (1963), "the Family of Toth" (1964)), was written in the form of narratives, they became an important milestone in the work of the writer - after which it again began to print. Then they were put on stage and made Arcana playwright of world renown.
In our country in the 70-80-ies of the last century Stephen Arkena considered as the playwright 27 Soviet theatres, famous performances Tovstonogov at the BDT has entered into the history not only domestic but also world culture.
