This edition includes a new translation of the Pentateuch of Moses, and haftarot fragments of the books of the Prophets, the final section of the Torah read weekly in the synagogue and thematically related to this section. The purpose of the new translation is to offer the reader literary Russian text of the Bible, semantically, as close as possible to the Hebrew original. The translation is in line with Jewish tradition, focusing not on biblical studies and Judaic studies, and Jewish exegesis, especially on the classic medieval commentary of Rashi.
