Трагедия «Фауст» (первая ее часть) — вершина творчества немецкого поэта Иоганна Вольфганга Гете (1749—1832) — вышла в свет в Германии два столетия тому назад и неоднократно переводилась на русский язык. В этой книге немецкий текст печатается вместе с переводом Бориса Пастернака, исполненным в середине ХХ века и с тех пор остающимся самым лучшим, живым и современным воспроизведением «Фауста» на русском языке. Сочетание великих имен делает этот перевод событием большого культурного значения и придает особый смысл пониманию перевода как реальности бессмертия творений человеческого гения.

Tragedy "Faust" (first part) — the peak of creativity of the German poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832) — was published in Germany two centuries ago and repeatedly translated into the Russian language. In this book, the German text is printed, with a translation by Boris Pasternak, performed in the mid-twentieth century and since then, remaining the best, lively and modern play "Faust" in Russian. The combination of great names makes the transfer an event of great cultural significance, and gives a special meaning to the understanding of translation as the reality of the immortality of the creations of human genius.
