Действие романа «Дети Розы» известной английской писательницы, поэтессы, переводчицы русской поэзии Элейн Файнстайн происходит в 1970 году. Но героям романа, Алексу Мендесу и его бывшей жене Ляльке, бежавшим из Польши, не дает покоя память о Холокосте. Алекс хочет понять природу зла и читает Маймонида. Лялька запрещает себе вспоминать о Холокосте.
Меж тем в жизнь Алекса вторгаются английские аристократы: Ли Уолш и ее любовник Джо Лейси. Для них, детей молодежной революции 1968, Холокост ничего не значит, их волнует лишь положение стран третьего мира и борьба с буржуазией. Лялька в попытке вернуться в прошлое едет в Польшу.
