Вниманию читателей предлагается учебное пособие "Общая морфология", которое стало первым на русском языке специализированным введением в проблематику морфологии языков мира. И первый опыт такого рода оказался востребованным; книга успешно выдержала несколько переизданий и приобрела известность у читателей, в том числе студентов --- будущих лингвистов.
Пособие представляет собой систематическое изложение основ лингвистической морфологии с учетом новейших теоретических достижений в этой области и с привлечением большого фактического материала разносистемных языков. Дается детальный анализ как проблем формальной морфологии (морфемики), то есть особенностей строения слова, так и проблем грамматической семантики, то есть классификации морфологически выражаемых грамматических значений в языках мира. Основной текст дополнен приложением, содержащим правила поморфемной нотации, а также именным указателем, указателем терминов и указателем языков. Библиография включает более 400 работ на русском и основных европейских языках. Каждая глава снабжена перечнем ключевых понятий, вводимых в тексте, и основной библиографией по соответствующей теме.
Изложение опирается на курсы общей и русской морфологии, в течение ряда лет читавшиеся автором на отделении теоретической и прикладной лингвистики филологического факультета МГУ им. М.В.Ломоносова.
