Владимир Григорьевич Лисовский родился в 1933 году. Окончил в 1957 году Ленинградский Кораблестроительный институт, в 1960 году – заочное отделение факультета теории и истории искусств Института живописи, скульптуры и архитектуры им. И.Е. Репина. Доктор искусствоведения, профессор. Работает в должности профессора кафедры истории и теории архитектуры Санкт-Петербургского государственного академического института им. И.Е. Репина. Член Союза архитекторов РФ. Советник Российской академии архитектуры и строительных наук. Член Совета по охране наследия при Администрации Санкт-Петербурга. Член Центрального совета и президиума Петербургского отделения Всероссийского общества охраны памятников истории и культуры (ВООПИК). Лауреат Анциферовской премии 2003 г. Автор более 150 научных публикаций, в том числе более 20 книг и брошюр. Среди работ последних лет: Архитектура эпохи Возрождения: Италия. СПб.: Азбука, 2007; Иван Фомин и метаморфозы русской неоклассики. СПб.: Коло, 2008; Архитектура России XVIII – начала ХХ века: поиски национального стиля. Книга содержит полное изложение истории стиля модерн в европейской архитектуре. В соответствии с замыслом автора материал рассматривается в хронологическом порядке и охватывает основные страны Центральной Европы. Отдельная глава посвящена развитию модерна в России. Книга, посвященная развитию модерна, содержит полное и обстоятельное авторское исследование, публикуемое в такой форме на русском языке впервые.
