В силу целого ряда причин Индия и США сумели преодолеть взаимное отчуждение, существовавшее с момента выхода в 1947 году на международную арену независимой Индии. The paper discusses the history of the development of India's nuclear programme, the evolution of its relations with the United States of America (the phenomenon of "estranged democracies"), Washington's reaction to the Indian testing of a nuclear device, the policy of administrations of William Clinton and George.Bush in this area, leading to the conclusion of the U.S.-India nuclear deal. The conclusion of the U.S.-India nuclear agreement marked the beginning of a new stage in relations between the two countries. Due to a number of reasons, India and the United States managed to overcome the mutual alienation that existed since the release in 1947 on the international scene of independent India. The reasons for the improved us-Indian relations are multiple, but the most important role here has played the nuclear factor.
