Тема сборника лишь отчасти пересекается с традиционными объектами документоведения и архивоведения. Вводя неологизм «документность», по аналогии с термином Романа Якобсона «литературность», авторы — известные социологи, антропологи, историки, политологи, культурологи, философы, филологи — задаются вопросами о месте документа в современной культуре, о социальных конвенциях, стоящих за понятием «документ», и смыслах, вкладываемых в это понятие. Способы постановки подобных вопросов соединяют теоретическую рефлексию и анализ актуальных, в первую очередь российских, практик. В книге рассматриваются самые различные ситуации, в которых статус документа признается высоким или, напротив, подвергается сомнению, — речь идет о политической власти и бюрократических институтах, памяти о прошлом и исторической науке, визуальных медиа и литературных текстах.

The theme of the collection is only partly overlaps with the traditional objects of records management and archival. Introducing the neologism "documentnote", by analogy with the term Roman Jakobson, "literariness", the authors — well-known sociologists, anthropologists, historians, political scientists, culturologists, philosophers, philologists — ask questions about the document in modern culture, about the social conventions behind the concept of "document", and the meanings invested in the concept. Ways of formulating such questions link the theoretical reflection and analysis of current, primarily Russian, and practices. The book covers a variety of situations in which the status of a document is high or, on the contrary, is questioned — it is about political power and bureaucratic institutions, memory of the past and historical science, visual media and literary texts.
