Учение о посмертных мытарствах души содержится в Священном Предании, согласном со Священным Писанием, и в произведениях церковных писателей.
Христос говорил об Ангелах, которые свяжут грешника и отведут в тьму (см. Мф. 22,13), апостол Павел, говоря про день злый (Еф. 6,13), имея в виду день смерти и начато мытарств, а по толкованию блаженного Феофилакта Болгарского Сама Божия Матерь и святой великомученик Георгий Победоносец боялись смерти и мытарств. "Учение о мытарствах есть учение Церкви", - пишет святитель Игнатий (Брянчанинов). Он же пишет: "Подробное описание мытарств и порядок, в котором они следуют одно за другим в воздушной бездне, заимствуем из поведания преподобной Феодоры".
Милосердие Божие открывает через избранных рабов Своих то, что обыкновенно сокрыто от наших чувств, но насущно для нашего спасения, и в тех именно образах, которые нам доступны и понятны. Внимательное прочтение книги поможет читателю правильно подготовиться к исповеди и обрести покаянное настроение.

The doctrine of posthumous ordeal of the soul is contained in Holy Tradition, consonant with the Sacred Scriptures and the works of religious writers.

The mercy of God reveals through his chosen servants that are commonly hid from our senses, but is essential for our salvation, and in the images that are available to us and understandable. A careful reading of the book will help the reader to properly prepare for confession and to find the mood of repentance.
