"Трагическим тенором эпохи" назвала Блока Анна Ахматова. "Тенор" - кумир публики, культовый герой... Именно таковым и был А.Блок в глазах современников. Время, преломившееся в его поэзии, сам облик Блока - добавили эпитет "трагический". Поэма "Возмездие", вошедшая в настоящий сборник, подтверждает этот эпитет, и еще раз доказывает, что "трещина, расколовшая мир, проходит через сердце поэта". В сборник включены поэма "Двенадцать", вызвавшая столь неоднозначную оценку современников, "программные" стихотворения "Скифы" и "Пушинскому дому", знаменитая речь "О назначени поэта", а также драматургические произведения Блока. В качестве приложения дана статья Николая Минского "От Данте к Блоку", увидевшая свет в Париже в 1921 году, спустя несколько месяцев после безвременной кончины Александра Блока.
